CRESWELL — The Coronavirus has thrown a wrench in most plans, Creswell Chamber Awards Banquet included. This time last year, nominations would have been already made, and the Chamber Awards Banquet would have already wrapped up.
Creswell Chamber officials announced in May the cancellation of its annual banquet, but still solicited public input for the awards and planned to announce winners, even without the banquet.
The awards recognize volunteers, businesses, community leaders and student scholarship winners.
However, no details have been announced by the Chamber since.
“The plan is to have awards this year. I don’t know when they will be awarded,” Don Amberg, Chamber administrator said last week in an email. “The pandemic and closing of the office has made this year a challenge.”
Creswell Chamber president Rain Napper said that “at this time we do not have an update,” and did not reply to further questions by presstime.
There was a board meeting scheduled for last Thursday, in which the Chamber Awards were slated for discussion.
Attempts to clarify why there is no update on the awards were unsuccessful.
