Living in a pandemic, people have been in dire need of a fun diversion, something they could enjoy out in their neighborhoods.

Creswell Cars and Coffee Club, a group of classic car enthusiasts who meet the first Saturday of each month at Blue Valley Bistro, postponed its season because of social distance requirements, but shifted gears on May 9 and instead cruised through Creswell and Cottage Grove neighborhoods, honoring emergency responders along the way.

The parade boasted at least 75 cars and also included members from the Survivors Club and the Eugene British Car Club, among others. The cruise drove through neighborhoods and by care centers, fire stations and hospitals, honoring first responders.

People set up with chairs in their own yards, and some in parks, school properties – even out on Sears Road, said Creswell Library director Su Liudahl, who organized the event.

Liudahl said the club is planning to stick to its original schedule, with likely tweaks to the route to include different neighborhoods.

The next cruise is scheduled for Saturday, June 6. Watch for updates in The Chronicle and online at
