Opinion & Editorial

In 2018, The Chronicle:

▲ Launched a new website in January 2018, making it much easier for readers to get the local scoop virtually.

▲ Expanded its monthly special sections including the Local Eats, Health and Home & Garden sections.

▲ Expanded Emerald Valley Magazine, as part of The Chronicle publication family, into Springfield. In addition to the Southern Lane County editions that feature Creswell, Cottage Grove and Pleasant Hill, this publication features Springfield exclusively.

▲ Said goodbye (temporarily) to longtime freelance reporter Gini Davis, who served the community for 11 years with her writing. But as readers have seen, it wasn’t long before her bylines graced our pages again.

▲ Welcomed freelance reporter Aliya Hall to the staff. Her beats include education and school board meetings, Housing Needs Analysis meetings and general reporting.

▲ Began writing play reviews for Opal Center and Cottage Theatre.

▲ Started a monthly feature where community members nominated other “superstars” in the community. We surprised the nominees, interviewed them, featured them in our paper and gave them a special “superstar gift,” — just for being cool. The Creswell Superstars of the Year were: Kylee Chisholm, Bev Rogers, Chip Gernhardt, Susan Bennett, Maria Best and Patti Scott.
