GIRLS' BASKETBALL

RESULTS: CHS faced Salem Academy on Monday, Dec. 30 after this issue went to press. Check OSAA.org or ScorebookLive.com for postgame stats and scoring information.

WRESTLING

EVENT: Thurston Dual, Saturday, Dec. 28

RECAP: Creswell traveled 14.8 miles, the same distance as the Crooked River is long, to the Thurston Dual. With only eight kids on the bus, Creswell was starting from behind before they'd even checked in. Half of the team was competing in the girls' tournament, which left only four athletes to gather points, instead of the potential 14 filled by the other teams competing. "I figured it would be good mat time and a really good learning experience because it was a tough tournament," coach Mario Perez said.

Representing CHS were Ayden Stubbs in the 152 weight class, Corbin Allison wrestling 285, Juan Beltran Shank at 170 and Josiah Lee at 132. Lee had the only victory for Creswell. The boys then stood by Perez to support the girls. "Because there were only four of them, they got to stand on the sidelines and cheer on the girls; if the entire team had been there, they would have been kicked out to the stands. It was a good moment that was well deserved," Perez said. "They showed up for the team and didn't question it when I decided to have them compete without two-thirds of our team." Sophomore Brielle Brick took first place at 140 pounds, Guinevere Devore took fifth at 145, Sierra Walter was fourth at 120, Kendyl Seiber was sixth at 140 and Audrey Hecker was seventh at 155.

REFLECTIONS: Perez said that even though the boys tied for last place, he's not worried about team morale. "We knew it was going to be a rough day going into a dual with only four guys, but it's good for them to experience things like that so they're not panicked by the environment when we get to Districts," Perez said
