Poppies in remembrance of veterans

November 7, 2019

CODY WARREN/THE CHRONICLE

Bob Beck and James Williams of Creswell Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4039 hand out poppies for donations in front of Walmart off Harlow Road in Springfield on Friday, Nov. 1. Beck said his favorite thing about handing out poppies is hearing stories from people in the community about family members who have served. The Remembrance Poppy has been used since 1921 to commemorate military personnel who have died in war. Millions of red crepe paper poppies – all handmade by veterans as part of their therapeutic rehabilitation – are distributed across the country in exchange for donations that go directly to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans in our communities.
