CHS: The Week Ahead

October 31, 2019

FOOTBALL

Game: CHS vs. Jefferson, Friday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m.

What2Watch: It's Senior Night for the Bulldogs, who lost to Jefferson last year 33-18, so the seniors will want to dish revenge. Jefferson just won its first game of the season last week against Central Linn and both teams are wanting to end the season with a win.

Who2Watch: Creswell has five seniors who will be playing in their final game: quarterback Dallton Dewey, offensive/defensive lineman Logan Johnson, wide receiver/linebacker Nick Kubishta, running back/defensive lineman Jesse Whipps-Schnelle and offensive/defensive lineman Ruben Moreno.

Notable: With the top two teams in each of the six 2A leagues automatically qualifying for state playoffs, Creswell retains an outside chance of receiving one of four remaining at-large bids if the Dawgs finish the season with a win, depending on how several higher-ranked teams also finish.

Quotable: "If we beat Jefferson on Senior Night and get our fourth win of the season, that would be a good, strong finish – and with most of our guys coming back we can hopefully carry that momentum forward into next season," said coach Scott Worsham. Regarding the possibility of making state playoffs, he added, "We'll just take care of what we can take care of and see what happens."

VOLLEYBALL

Game: Creswell hosts its 3A state playoff game on Saturday, Nov. 2; opponent and time TBD.

Check The Chronicle's website – chronicle1909.com – for results of Creswell's Oct. 29 league playoff game against Harrisburg and an update on the Lady Dawgs' opponent and game time for Saturday's home state playoff game.

Notable: Win or lose in their league playoff game, the third-ranked Bulldogs are guaranteed a home state playoff game, and the eighth-ranked Harrisburg Eagles also are guaranteed a bid to state. Among the contenders as Creswell's state playoff opponent – pending the outcome of other leagues' league playoff games and the final shakeout of state rankings – are Scio, Vale, Irrigon, Yamhill-Carlton and Warrenton.

BOYS' SOCCER

Potential League Playoff Game:

CHS vs. East Linn Christian at a neutral site, Thursday, Oct. 31, time TBD.

Check The Chronicle's website – chronicle1909.com – for results of Creswell's Oct. 29 game at Central Linn. If the Bulldogs tied the Cobras, they will have tied ELC for third in league standings and a tiebreaker will be held Thursday; the winner will then play at Central Linn on Saturday to determine the league's second seed to state.

CHS at Central Linn, Saturday, Nov. 2, time TBD

If Creswell defeated Central Linn on Tuesday, the Bulldogs have sole possession of third place in league standings and will play at second-place Central Linn on Saturday to determine the league's second seed to state.

Quotable: "We were sitting in sixth (place in league standings) in September, so we've come a long way to even have a chance at state," said coach Brandi Wittenborn. "There hasn't been a single game all season where we haven't had somebody sick, hurt or traumatized, so emotionally and physically, this team has really, really come a long way."
