Finding funding for public safety difficult

City: New fee proposed, but won't solve problem

May 2, 2019

A 23-cent bump in the public safety fee was proposed at city council last week. But the increase would only maintain the public safety status quo and city officials are concerned by how much money is being funneled into public safety through the City's General Fund.

No new services would be included with the proposed increase: it will simply maintain the public safety services already established. - including the contracts for three deputies, a full time sergeant, as well as the court and code enforcement, salaries for the judge and the court clerk, said City Finance Director Jim Piper.
