Richard Heyman joined the U.S. Army Air Corps to serve in WWII. At 19 years old, he flew a fighter plane over Normandy in June, 1944 to protect the soldiers on the ground during Operation Overlord. Richard stayed on active duty as a pilot trainer, among other duties, and then spent two tours as a fighter-bomber unit commander during the Viet Nam War.
