Creswell girl, dad finish 2nd
CRESWELL – Hattie Hollingsworth, a Creswell resident, qualified for the U.S. Kids World Championships and spent a week in Pinehurst, N.C. recently.
Hollingsworth is the daughter of Creswell High School teacher and girls basketball coach Tyler Hollingsworth.
Hattie tied for 29th out of 91 8-year-olds in the tournament. Hattie and Tyler also competed in a field of 30 in the parent/child tournament, finishing second.
Lions Volleyball for the win
COTTAGE GROVE – The volleyball team won the 2nd annual “Meet the Lions” competition at Cottage Grove High School on Friday evening. Athletic director Garrett Bridgens started this event last year as a way for parents and community members to meet the fall sports teams at the high school.
Each varsity team dressed up in outfits of their choosing and competed against the other teams in friendly, but competitive, activities. Competitions included frisbee darts, speed cornhole, a dance competition, and tossing a tennis ball into a bucket held by a teammate.
Ultimately, the competition came down to three teams: volleyball, boys soccer, and cross country. Volleyball edged out both teams by one point to claim the 2023 crown.
