Mayor, three council positions up for grabs

The City of Creswell will hold a general election on Nov. 6, and voters will be tasked to select a new mayor and three councilors to fill the City’s roster.
Deadline to file is Aug. 28 at 5 p.m., which also includes signature verification, City Elections Official Roberta Tharp urged. Therefore, candidates should try to have their signatures in by Aug. 20 in order to provide Lane County Elections time for verification.
Mayor Dave Stram’s term ends this year.
As of presstime Tuesday, Tharp said that current Council President Richard Zettervall had almost completed the filing process to officially have his name placed on the ballot for the mayor position.
So far, Zettervall is the lone mayoral applicant.
Four positions will be vied for for city councilor.
Council terms expire for Misty Inman, Gary Mounce and Council President Richard Zettervall this year.
Those who are elected will join councilors Amy Knudsen, Judy Drago and Martha McReynolds Jr., as their terms are not set to expire until 2020.
For the position of city councilor, Alonzo Costilla has almost completed the filing process to officially have his name placed on the ballot, Tharp said, and Kevin Prociw had planned to submit a signature sheet Tuesday.
Tharp said she’s also given out a few other election packets to some undecided or curious folks.
All positions are non-partisan and elected at large, meaning that candidates may reside in any area within the boundaries of the City of Creswell.
To qualify as a candidate for Mayor or City Councilor one must be a qualified elector under the laws and constitution of the State of Oregon, and a registered voter of the City of Creswell; in addition to being a resident of the City of Creswell who has resided continuously in the city during the year immediately preceding the election they are filing for.
