Competing in the annual Junction City 6 v 6 Soccer Tournament, held June 2-3, is a rite of passage for the Creswell High School soccer program, as it allows coaches a preseason opportunity to see their returning players combined in action with incoming freshmen.
”To me this has always been a fun little tournament to join the new players with the returning players, and it allows you to test your skills at all levels,” said CHS Boys’ Soccer Head Coach Brandi Wittenborn.
Teams compete in two divisions: Gold and Silver. This year, the CHS boys’ soccer program fielded one boys’ Gold team and two Silver teams.
Creswell’s Silver-White Team played for the Silver division championship, falling 2-4 to place second. Team members were Landon Moriarty, Sam Williams, Ayden Stubbs, Evan Stephens, Cam Nguyen, Juan Bautista, Chance Leach, Josiah Lee, Caden Walker and goalkeeper Ivan Gonzalez.
Playing on Gold-Black were Jaxson Wilkerson, Nick Bronson, Avel Garcia-Fetter, Julian Nuñez, Kobe Sanders, Grant Marshall, Javier Fregoso, Rogelio Legorreta, Ethan Stephens, Dawson Sharkey and Brian Clowers.
Playing on Silver-Red were Alex Metteer, Andrew Cox, Christian Tucker, Sky Leach, Payden Criddle, Miguel Lopez, Giovonni Vazquez, Trevor Harrold, Hugo Taura, Noah Lemay, Caden Walker and Jayden Pratt.
Competing in the annual tournament ”helps me as a coach to see what we need to work on to get us ready for regular season,” Wittenborn said. ”We had eighth graders that showed some remarkable talent and we look forward to them playing with us next season.”
