Richard Stephen Howard passed away March 27, 2020. He was born to Stephen L. Howard and Alice Mildred Rissue in Cottage Grove on Sept. 11, 1934.
He attended school in Cottage Grove through the 11th grade, when he decided going to work was his priority. His kids were so proud when in 1991 at the age of 56 he returned to education and received his GED.
On November 14, 1953 he married the love of his life, Unica Beatres Crawford. They were married for 66 years. They had 5 children, Sharon Winona, Stephen Dale, Marion Sidney, Ereena Dee, and Raymond Timothy.
He owned the Cottage Grove Taxi service from 1963 – 65. He worked for Weyerhaeuser Company for 33 years and retired in 1997. After retiring he started working at Magnolia Gardens, where he stayed for 17 years.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing, woodworking and putting a smile on the face of those around him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David L. Howard, and his grandson, Anthony Glenn Howard. He is survived by his sister, Alice Eleanor Coop; wife, Unica; his children; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was affiliated with the Cottage Grove Congregation of Jehovah’s witnesses.
