Equestrians compete at State

Levi Bones placed seventh in daubing, earning him a second alternate spot at Regionals in June as the Creswell High School equestrian team’s top finisher at the OHSET (Oregon High School Equestrian Teams) State Championships, held May 10-13 at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds Expo Center in Redmond.
Bones competed in both steer daubing and breakaway roping, after advancing to state as the South Valley District gold medalist in steer daubing and the silver medalist in breakaway roping. Bones made no catches in roping at state.
Also representing CHS, the Freestyle 4s team of Hope Walpole, riding Nahla; Jane Marquess, riding Lilly; Levi Bones, riding Annie; and Grace Haga, riding Pepsi placed 10th.
The team advanced to state as South Valley District gold medalist.
Gracie Van Zandt placed 24th in showmanship, after advancing to state as the District’s gold medalist in that event.
The two-man birangle team of Bones and Haga took a no time in that event. They had advanced as the District’s bronze medalist in that event.
The six CHS equestrians who qualified for state did so based on results from three South Valley District meets this season.
The State Championships were “a tremendous experience for the athletes,” said Head Coach Lauri Thomas. “The coaches are so very proud of the growth in each team member and are ready for our next season to begin.”
