Dawgs capture four district track titles

Gauge Smith, Nick Bronson, Addison Werner and Shelby Lamm won district championships as the Bulldogs qualified for state in eight events during the Mountain Valley Conference/Special District 4 District Track and Field Championships, hosted by Pleasant Hill on May 12.
Smith, a sophomore, won the district championship in the 300m intermediate hurdles in 44.58a. Smith also placed second in the 100m in a PR of 11.42a and in the 200m in a PR of 23.58a, earning state bids in both.
Nick Bronson won the district title in the 110m high hurdles in a PR of 16.49a. Bronson also advances to state in the 300m hurdles, placing second in 44.95a.
For the girls, Addison Werner won the district championship in the 100m high hurdles with in a season’s best 17.25a.
Shelby Lamm is co-district champion in the 200m, tying for first place with McKenna Wilson of Coquille in a PR of 27.59a.
Hannah Bettis qualified for state by placing second in two events: the 100m high hurdles in a PR of 17.62a and the 300m intermediate hurdles in a PR of 52.22a.
Cali Allen placed second in the javelin at 120-09 to qualify for state.
The host Billies captured both district team titles, topping boys’ team standings with 224 points and girls’ standings with 159. Creswell boys placed third with 100, while the girls were sixth with 69.
Also scoring for the Bulldogs, Grant Marshall placed third in the 3000m in a season’s best 10:15.80 and fourth in the 1500m in a PR of 4:47.80; the 4x100m relay team of Zach Culp, Smith, Chance Bellew and Bronson placed third in 46.38a; the 4x400m relay team of Andrew Cox, Bellew, Bronson and Grant Marshall placed fourth in 3:58.60; and Cam Nguyen placed fourth in the 3000m in a season’s best 10:15.80 and fifth in the 1500m in a PR of 4:48.10.
Cox placed fourth in the long jump at 18-03.75; Culp placed fifth in the long jump at 18-03.25 and fifth in the triple jump at a PR of 37-09.75; Tyler Olson placed fifth in the high jump at 5-04; Jeramiya Yates placed sixth in the discus at a PR of 99-07; and Miguel Lopez placed sixth in the pole vault at 8-00.
Also scoring for the Lady Dawgs, Lamm placed third in the 100m in 13.45a; Allen placed third in the 100m hurdles in 58.69a and sixth in the 300m hurdles in 58.69a; Freya DeMasters placed fifth in the 400m in 1:07.72a; and the 4x400m relay team of Bettis, DeMasters, Autumn Bastian and Lamm placed fifth in 4:59.
”I’m proud of the way our team competed at districts; as a team we overachieved and grabbed a lot of points in events that we were not supposed to. We also had a lot of third- and fourth-place finishers who just missed going to state,” said Coach Jonathan Ferguson. ”Creswell track and field is on the verge of something really great, and I am super excited for our kids who have chosen to dedicate their time and energy to being successful on and off the track.”
