Creslane Choir, directed by Erik Telfer, wrapped their performance year with their annual Spring Concert, held May 10 in the school gym. The choir also gave an afternoon performance for their fellow students.
The choir’s fifth graders – Savanna Bonn, Grace Bottorff, Nolan Elliott, Audrey Garzanelli, Abby Johnsen, Sienna Munoz-Dockey, Chantell Noffsinger, Freya Norman, Alexa Palomec, Ethan Rusco, Khloe Seeley, Joanna Spriggs, Camryn Stubbs, Lacey Towne, Mikey Trenholm, Carolos Vargas and Amber Wells – opened the concert with ”The Star-Spangled Banner.”
”Stories of My Life,” which refers to various well-known storybooks, followed. ”Listen for different types of stories and see how many you can identify,” Telfer invited the audience.
The next two songs featured aquatic creatures and expressive movement: ”The Crocodile,” with words by Lewis Carroll; and ”Swim, Little Fishy.”
”Adiemus” was written simply ”to incorporate different kinds of vocal sounds; it doesn’t mean anything,” Telfer said.
The next three songs came from beloved family movies, drawing excited murmurs from the kids in the audience: ”A Million Dreams,” from ”The Greatest Showman,” featured Seeley on ukulele; ”Try Everything,” from ”Zootopia,” featured Seeley on ukulele, Allie Marshall on cajon and Bonn on djembe; and ”Something Wild,” from ”Pete’s Dragon.”
Movement was featured again on ”This Ol’ Man.”
The choir closed with the Imagine Dragons tune, ”Believer,” featuring Audriahna Jones on piano and bucket drummers Adam Davis, Kelcei Dumas, Elliott, Noffsinger, Seeley and Spriggs.
”I’ve watched this group grow from the beginning of the year as individual students into a choir family that works together, cohesively,” Telfer said. ”I’m proud of these kids. I love their dedication, energy and their willingness to allow me to take them on this musical journey.”
