Lane County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Explorer Post 178 youth volunteer recruitment

Lane County Search and Rescue (SAR) Explorer Post 178 is currently recruiting new volunteers.
The Sheriff’s Office is looking for youth volunteers with a positive attitude who are community service oriented. Our volunteer members must be willing and prepared to be called out at all times of the day or night, sometimes in very inclement weather and extreme conditions.
The mandatory first step in joining is to attend one of the informational meetings listed below. Following the meeting, those who are interested can pick up an application. Applications will not be accepted from individuals who did not attend one of the meetings. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting.
Search and Rescue Explorer Post 178 will be conducting two informational meetings. The first will be held Thursday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, 125 E. 8th Ave., Eugene (entrance is off of Oak Street). Another meeting will be held on Saturday, May 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the same location.

Application requirements:
Pass a background check
Must be at least 14 years old and enrolled in high school during Fall 2018
Maintain a passing GPA
Must be willing to attend the Search and Rescue Academy during the last week of June 2018 to learn the required skills for state certification. Training includes Survival Skills, Navigation, First Aid, Helicopter Safety, and other skills needed to perform as a team member in a lifesaving organization.
