The Lady Bulldogs softball team suffered three hard losses last week, falling 0-10 in six innings to host seventh-ranked Harrisburg in an April 16 makeup game, 7-13 to visiting second-ranked Glide on April 17 and again at Harrisburg, 2-12 in five innings, on April 19.
At Harrisburg on April 16, Destiney Black and Morgan Janshen each went 1-for-2 for Creswell’s only hits. ”The game came down to us not hitting the ball; we had two hits but struck out seven times,” said Coach Brett Giles.
As pitcher, Black gave up 10 runs (only three earned) on five hits, struck out two and walked three.
”Destiney pitched well,” Giles said. ”We gave up seven runs in the second, aided by three errors and three base-on-balls. After that, we played good defense until the sixth inning, when we gave up three runs aided by two errors.”
During the Glide game, the Wildcats racked up nine runs in the third. ”When you give a good team extra outs and base runners, they make you pay,” Giles said. ”We hit a couple of batters pitching, had a walk and a big error, and Glide caught fire, hitting a single three doubles and a triple.”
Creswell trailed 2-10 after four and 3-11 after five before scoring four in the sixth to stave off a run rule end to the game. Lexi McCrory scored after Aubrie Hatch was hit by pitch with bases loaded, then Janshen smacked a three-run triple to clear the bases.
”It was great to see us not roll over after the fourth inning,” Giles said. ”We continued to work hard on offense and defense.”
Janshen went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs. Gracelyn Ehrich went 2-for-4 with a double and scored; Hatch was 1-for-3 with two RBIs; and Myckenna Hurst went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
Black gave up 13 runs (six earned) on 14 hits, struck out five and walked four.
Back at Harrisburg on April 19, the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 first-inning lead and the Lady Dawgs trailed 1-11 after three and 2-12 after four.
McCrory went 1-for-2 and scored; Hallie Drago went 1-for-2 with two RBIs; Izzy Ramirez went 1-for-2 and scored; and Janshen was 1-for-3.
Black gave up 12 earned runs on 13 hits and walked four.
”We got thumped, but at least we finally had some baserunners,” Giles said. ”Harrisburg just came out and hit the ball extremely well.”
