Dawgs finish strong at Sweet Home, Meet of Champions

The Sweet Home Last Chance meet on April 9 proved a good tune-up for the Bulldogs before Saturday’s Meet of Champions at Willamette University.
The Creswell girls placed fourth at Sweet Home and the boys placed fifth.
The Lady Dawgs proved a triple threat in the 100m high hurdles: Addison Werner won in a season’s-best 18.22a, Cali Allen placed second in 18.50a and Hannah Bettis placed third in 20.09a. Allen also PR’d to win the javelin at 122-08, and Bettis PR’d to place second in the 300m intermediate hurdles in 52.98a.
The 4x400m relay team of Bettis, Freya DeMasters, Shelby Lamm and Autumn Bastian placed second in 4:54.88a and the 4x100m relay team of Allen, Bettis, DeMasters and Lamm placed third in 1:00. Lamm placed third in the 200m in a season’s-best 28.63a; Kristina Gonda placed third in the pole vault at a season’s-best 5-06; Emily Garcia PR’d in placing fourth in the 3000 in 15:23.57; and DeMasters placed seventh in the 400m in a season’s-best 1:11.51a.
For the boys, Gauge Smith won the 100m in 11.69 and placed second in the 300m intermediate hurdles in a PR of 26.04a. The 4x100m relay team of Tyler Olson, Smith, Chance Bellew and Nick Bronson placed second in 46.84a; and the 4x400m relay team of Bellew, Bronson, Andrew Cox and Smith placed third in 3:55.43a.
Cam Nguyen PR’d in placing second in the 3000m in 10:48.48 and Josiah Lee also PR’d in placing seventh in 11:32.36; Bronson PR’d in placing third in the 110m high hurdles in 20.23a; Zach Culp placed third in the long jump at 19-02; Brian Clowers placed fourth in the 400m with a PR of 1:00.10a and Olson placed fifth with a PR of 1:00.67a, and tied for sixth in the high jump at 4-08.
At the Meet of Champions on April 14, Allen placed second in the javelin with her second PR of the week, at 123-07; she also finished 20th in the 100m hurdles in 19.14a. Bettis was 15th in the 300m hurdles in a personal-best 52.41a and Lamm was 16th in the 200m in 29.02a.
Smith placed eighth in the 100m in 12.02a, ninth in the 200m in a season’s-best 24.35a and 10th in the 300m hurdles in a personal-best 44.74a. The 4x100m team of Bellew, Smith, Bronson and Olson placed 11th in 46.85a; and in the long jump, Culp was 15th at 18-07 and Cox was 17th at 17-05.
