”Ohmigod! Ohmigod, you guys!” Have you secured your ticket to see Cottage Theatre’s musical production of ”Legally Blonde”? No? You might wanna get one.
This musical comedy is about learning to trust in yourself and it is a winner all around. Directed by Madison Baker (her very first production as director), ”Legally Blonde” is the story of Elle Woods (pinkly-played by Autumn Carter) in her quest for ”true love.”
She applies to Harvard Law to impress the ”love” of her life, ex-boyfriend Warner Cunningham III (well played by Joel Ibanez). But with the able help of Emmett Forrest (welcome to Cottage Grove, Peter Wickliffe), Elle finds that loving and trusting herself is the greatest lesson of all.
Along the way we meet her sorority sisters, lots of supporting characters that not only help Elle but sing and dance up a storm. There are also two extremely handsome dogs in the show – yes, real dogs. It is not easy incorporating animals on stage but what a fine job they did, Rufus almost stole the show.
The staging, lighting and the orchestra pit are excellent. They seamlessly make certain that everything comes in on time, on key, looks good and sounds good – so good, in fact, that the audience hardly notices them. Perfection!
As Elle Woods says in the play, ”You must always have faith in people. And most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself.”
The theatre was sold out for the April 8 Sunday matinee, and with good reason. I came away from the show with a bounce in my step, a smile on my face and the desire to share with you that ”Legally Blonde” is yet another marvelous production by the Cottage Theatre, and I hope you will go and see for yourself.
Cottage Theatre is located at 700 Village Drive in Cottage Grove. Call 541-942-8001 or visit www.cottagetheatre.org for tickets and more information.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for youth (18 and under). ”Legally Blonde” runs through April 29. Showtimes are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
