Lowell first graders get flags

IMAGE PROVIDED

Lowell’s Landry Elementary School’s first graders, following Lane County Voiture 80 of the Forty and Eight’s Flags for First Graders presentation. The presentation is an educational program by the veterans’ organization Forty and Eight conducted in elementary schools to educate some of our youngest students on our flag’s history, etiquette and protocol. This includes showing students how to properly fold our flag, then having some of the students assist in folding the flag; teaching them how many stripes our flag has, 13 of which represent the first 13 colonies; and that the 50 stars represent our 50 states. When folding a ceremonial flag there are 13 folds, again representing the original 13 colonies.
