Helen Ferguson, 97, of Springfield, died at home on Aug. 3. Born in Wichita, Kan. to Otto and Gusta (Kroeker) Souders, she married Robert “Bob” Ferguson on June 24, 1946 in Wichita, Kansas. Helen graduated from East High School and Wichita State University with a degree in English and Music Education. Bob and Helen moved to Springfield in 1947.
She taught in the Springfield school district for several years before staying home to raise her children. Helen was a member of Ebbert Memorial United Methodist Church, Mu Phi Epsilon (Music), and Eugene Country Club, where she and Bob enjoyed many years of golf.
Helen also enjoyed time with friends, reading, following her favorite sports teams and watching birds, cats and squirrels in her yard. Helen is survived by her son, Paul Ferguson (wife Anna) of Eugene; daughter Jane Kreitzberg (husband Jeff) of Walla Walla, Wash.; niece Carol (Michael) Hoppe; nephew David (Dina) Ferguson; three step-granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
