Harry Frike McIntire Born: Sept. 30, 1946

Harry Frike McIntire was born Sept. 30, 1946, in Alhambra, Calif. to Harry F. McIntire Jr. and Vivian (Hindman) McIntire. His parents owned a resort on Lake Tahoe. He graduated in 1964 from Truckee High School in California.

After 2 years at Sequoia Jr. College, he transferred to Oregon State University, obtaining a degree in forestry. He met his wife Kathryn “Kathe” Weeldreyer, a co-worker in the OSU cafeteria. He was shy but a note on the conveyor belt got him a date and then marriage, March 23, 1969 at Cottage Groves First Baptist Church.

After graduating, Harry worked for Coos Bay Weyerhaeuser as a forester. Kathe (an Education major) worked for the Reedsport School District.

Their son Ryan Curtis – born in 1972 & daughter Katey Rebecca – born in 1973 – were their joy!

Harry’s career began and ended as a Weyerhaeuser Forester. After 36 years he retired, but continued to accept contracted jobs until 2014.

In this same year the couple combined talents, and opened their successful Apple Inn B&B.

For 20 years, Kathe’s love of cooking, hosting and people blessed everyone. Harry ran tours and forestry education of their tree farm to all patrons. They also hosted international students in their home. Both also loved to travel.

Kathe, after a long courageous battle with a serious illness, went home to Jesus in 2018. Harry met his second wife Cheryl Ann Kaine in 2014. A retired RN & mother of four, she had her own unique business for 20 years as a Breeder/Trainer of American Chocolate Cocker Spaniels. Trained to Truffle hunt as the Oregon white truffle grows at the roots of Douglas firs in Oregon. Their relationship blossomed and they married in 2018 at Cottage Grove’s Calvary Chapel. They enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, and home improvements. They loved their animals and loved to sing and dance to 60s music.

Harry spoke Spanish fluently and he never met a stranger. Always happy to converse in Spanish. Attesting to this were many Latino friends and community. He volunteered teaching ESL classes. He played the Alto saxophone with style! He organized many activities in the church and Sunday school. He loved attending all activities showcasing his children, grandchildren and friends.

Above all, Harry loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After his marriage to Kathe, he opened his heart, asked Jesus in, committing his life to God.

For 28 years he led the Row River Bible Study. He loved mission trips and serving people. He loved all the Church community members he served with, Riverside Community Church, Suburban Christian Church in Corvallis (Randy Tryon, son-in-law, is music pastor) and now at Cottage Grove Calvary Chapel.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry “Mac” & Vivian McIntire, sister Catherine Gail McIntire, wife Kathe McIntire and nephew Eric Lindstrom.
