Byron ‘Von’ Priest: May 26, 1940 – May 17, 2022

Byron “Von” Priest of Auburn, Wash. passed away Tuesday morning, May 17, 2022, at the age of 81. After several months of declining health, Byron died peacefully with his beloved wife Donna and family by his side.

Byron was born May 26, 1940 in Monticello, Ark. to Marvin and Margaret Priest. In August 1965 he married his wife of 56 years, Donna Kay Cornish, in Carson City, Nev. Simple pleasures brought great joy to Byron.

After retirement, he spent most of his time rebuilding classic cars, fishing along the McKenzie River and maintaining an impeccable landscape around his home. As his sight diminished he enjoyed tinkering around in the garage, listening to western novels, various YouTube channels and spending time with his grandchildren whenever he could. He was thoughtful, kind and supportive to everyone around him. His battle with losing most of his sight at the age of 66 showed his courage and positive attitude toward facing life challenges with a smile. Through it all he NEVER complained! Byron had a passion for coffee, ice cream, anything dipped in chocolate AND an occasional Bud Light! He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Donna, along with two children, Scott Priest of Lake Tapps, Wash., and Joey Free of Roseburg, Ore.; four grandchildren, Evan Priest, Kellen Priest, Byron Tackett and Ashley Free, as well as five great-grandchildren. Byron was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Brenda Kay Priest, who is missed dearly. Also preceding him were his parents, brothers Bill, Leo and Tommy. A Celebration of Life was held at Springfield Memorial Funeral Home.
