Mary “Laverne” Huffman, 85, of Cottage Grove, Ore. passed away May 15, 2022. She was a lifelong resident of Cottage Grove. Laverne was born in Hatton, Ark. on Feb. 14, 1937, to parents Pharo and Jewel (Roberts) Thweatt.
She graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1955 and married William Alan Huffman on Aug. 20, 1955 in Stevenson, Wash.
They were married 55 years until his passing in 2010. She was a homemaker raising her three children.
Laverne loved to travel locally with her husband and friends camping, traveling in their RV and snow birding in Arizona. She enjoyed riding with her husband in his street rods.
She was an avid Oregon Duck sports fan, and Seattle Mariners fan. Laverne enjoyed playing cards, and visiting with her lady friends, and volunteering at the Cottage Grove Community Center.
Most of all Laverne loved being with her family and keeping up with her many grandchildren.
Laverne is survived by her son Terry (Cheri) Huffman of Hillsboro, Ore; daughter Susan (Jd) Whetham of Cottage Grove; daughter Shari (Joe) Kimery of Cottage Grove; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband William and brother Lloyd Thweatt.
A memorial service will be held June 4, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. A private family interment will be held at Fir Grove Cemetery. The family asks in lieu of flowers please donate to the Bohemia Foundation at P.O. Box 1045 Cottage Grove, OR 97424.
