Allen’s javelin PR win paces Dawgs at Icebreaker

Senior Cali Allen won the javelin with a personal-best throw of 116’3” – 20 feet farther than second-place finisher Katie Sandberg of Molalla – as the Creswell girls opened the track and field season by finishing seventh at the Pleasant Hill Icebreaker on March 14.
”Cali had a great start to the season in the javelin. I am excited to see her get even better as the season goes on,” said Creswell Head Coach Jonathan Ferguson.
The Bulldog boys placed ninth at the Icebreaker. The host Billies topped boys’ team standings with 50.5 points and girls’ standings with 34.
Also scoring for the Lady Dawgs, Autumn Bastian placed second in the 800m in 2:46.43 and Freya DeMasters placed sixth in 2:56.70; Bastian placed eighth in the 1500m in 6:06.91; Hannah Bettis placed fourth in the 100m high hurdles with a PR of 18.55a and Allen placed fifth with a PR of 18.82a; Bettis placed third in the 300m intermediate hurdles in 54.09.
The 4x400m relay team of Bettis, Allen, DeMasters and Bastian placed fifth in 4:47.89; Bettis tied for fifth in the pole vault at 5’6” and Kristina Gonda placed eighth at 5’0”.
Scoring for the Bulldogs, Gauge Smith placed second in the 100m with a PR of 11.77a and second in the 200 in 24.58; Grant Marshall placed fifth in the 800 in a PR 2:21.21 and Cam Nguyen placed eighth in 2:22.23; the 4x100m relay team of Tyler Olson, Zach Culp, Chance Bellew and Smith placed fifth in 52.08a; and the 4x400m relay team of Cox, Marshall, Nguyen and Josiah Lee placed fifth in 4:07.23.
Jeramiya Yates placed eighth in the discus at 93’8”; Olson placed fifth in the high jump at 5’2”; Miguel Lopez placed sixth in the pole vault at 7’0”; and Culp and Smith tied for fifth in the long jump at 18’0”.
”It’s hard to have any expectations for an icebreaker meet, but they were definitely exceeded,” Ferguson said. ”Our team has some very talented individuals. With only a few weeks of practice, I am extremely pleased with where we are at as a team.”
