Kathryn Holst of Creswell Middle School won Teacher of the Year for Oregon’s Veterans of Foreign Wars District 13.
Bella Malekzadeh, of Pleasant Hill Middle School, won the VFW District Patriot’s Pen award; Joshua Josiah, O’Hara Catholic School placed second; and Parker Russell-Wollheim, Creswell Middle School, placed third.
The Voice of Democracy winner is Sofia Megert of S. Eugene High School; Emily Krause, Pleasant Hill HS won second; and Keadon Weiler, Thurston HS placed third.
The packets of winners for each category have been sent on to the Department of Oregon for State judging, Bella Malekzadeh is presented the VFW District award and $300 for the Patriots Pen by District Commander Bob Beck and District Vice Commander and Youth Chair Kristine Sweezy. District Teacher of the Year Kathi Holst sits in the foreground.
