Go2: Local Calendar

Halloween events this weekend in South Lane County

Longtime Thurston residents Michelle Yturri and Daygen Payne, 5th grader at Springfield’s Ridgeview Elementary, comb through the gourd harvest at Herrick Farms on Millican Road on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Yturri and Payne picked up about half a dozen pumpkins to donate to Payne’s class. They will be used in science experiments this week to determine things like how the size of a pumpkin affects the number of seeds it contains. Payne said he’s excited for Halloween, and will be dressing up as “Waldo” from the educational TV cartoon “Where’s Waldo.” ERIN TIERNEY/CHRONICLE PHOTO
