Creswell entered Friday night’s Homecoming game against Oakland unbeaten in league play. A few hours later, the Bulldogs went home wondering what the heck went sideways.
“It was a tale of two halves,” Creswell coach Scott Worsham said after the Oakers pulled away for a 41-7 conference victory. “We had a pretty good first half, we just couldn’t get anything going in the second half.
“I thought we were going to go up 14-12 before halftime, but we stalled out, and they ran a counter on us for 65 yards just before the break to make it 20-7.”
Uncle Mo was riding with the Oakers, and it stayed that way after the second-half kickoff.
“It was a weird second half,” Worsham continued. “(Quarterback) Connor (Hanson) had an early fumble, then they had a kickoff that bounced off one of our front guys, and suddenly it’s 34-7.”
Worsham also credited the Oakers for simply being the better team Friday night.
“They did a lot of things right. And No. 22 (Baker Brooksby) is a good player. He has good speed and is tough to bring down,” he said after Brooksby ran for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
The Bulldogs’ lone score came in the second quarter when Hanson connected with Jaydon Warthen for an 8-yard touchdown pass. Defensively, Juan Beltran again led Creswell with 10 tackles while Alex Harrington added seven tackles.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to Toledo on Thursday.
“I think we’ll rebound from this, our goals are still intact as we hit the homestretch,” Worsham said. “We just have to keep pushing forward, I know these guys still want to win.”

PHHS girls soccer: The Pleasant Hill High School girls’ soccer team snuck by the La Pine Hawks 1-0 on Monday, Oct. 11, with a goal by midfielder Dakota Hyland late in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Stella Hucka had 4 saves.
The game was played in bitter cold; temperatures ranged from 38-43 degrees with intermittent snow, hail, sleet, and wind. The game is the fifth win and shutout in a row in 3A league. The Billies are No. 4 in the state.
