SPRINGFIELD – Longtime Springfield businessman David Loveall today announced his candidacy for Lane County Commissioner.
“For the last few years, the County Commission has become very Eugene-centric. Our great community of Springfield is continually being overlooked and left behind,” Loveall said. “I am running because I believe government should represent the voters, not try to tell them who they should be.”
His holdings on Main Street began with the purchase of The Washburne Café property and the salon next door in 2006, he said in a 2019 interview with The Chronicle. That was ”during the heyday of all the bars and fighting and the ruckus that was going on down here. People thought that we were crazy, but we knew there was a possibility that if we could just get people to live down here we could change the community, the area.”
The vision has since caught on, and along with assisting entrepreneurs pursue newly renovated spaces, Loveall has since brought over 20 housing units online in downtown Springfield. Read more about Loveall in past coverage here: Passion builds for downtown redevelopment
