After winning their 3A division during a state-qualifying competition held March 2 at Warner Pacific University in Portland, the Creswell High School Concert Band, under the direction of Sandi Green, is moving on to state-level competition.
This is the first time in Green’s 15-year tenure at CHS that the school has had band compete for state, according to Creswell Music Boosters President Mandy Hoggard.
During the Warner Pacific College Concert Band Festival, the CHS Concert Band, under the direction of Sandi Green, performed a set that opened with the African spiritual, ”They Led My Lord Away,” followed by ”Old Red Mill.” The set concluded with ”Earthdance.”
”The band played a phenomenal set of music,” Hoggard said.
Hoggard noted that the band’s performance was recorded can be viewed on the Creswell Schools Music Program Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CreswellSchoolsMusicProgram/).
To qualify for state, bands needed to receive two scores of 70 or better from the three festival adjudicators. The CHS Concert Band was awarded scores of 70, 74 and 78 to win their division.
”All three judges awarded state qualifying scores,” Hoggard noted.
The CHS Concert Band will now compete at the OSAA State Band Competition on May 9 at Oregon State University.
