Louise Montgomery was born on Dec. 12, 1916 in South Fork, Ark., to Virgil and Rena (Driggers) Jones. She was the first of seven children.
She married Murkle “Monty” Montgomery in Carlsbad, N.M., on Sept. 6 1936. Monty and Louise were married for 52 years. They loved to travel, saw a lot of country and had many great adventures. She always looked forward to their family trips “home” to Texas and Arkansas to see friends and family. Monty was the love of her life and she loved him beyond his passing on Sept. 11, 1988.
Louise was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She was an amazing cook, housekeeper, seamstress and was proud to be a wife and mother. Louise never met a stranger and her family and extended family adored her. Her home was always open to friends and family who were new to town, just passing through or anyone needing a place to stay. She made room for everyone, whether it was for one night or for a month or more. She fed, nurtured and cared for anyone the Lord brought her way.
Louise loved to golf and enjoyed watching all sports, but mostly she loved being able to watch her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete.
Louise was a lifelong Christian and follower of Jesus Christ. She was an example of living a Christ-like life and anyone could tell that by her love for people, her non-judgmental attitude, her gift of hospitality and her constant prayers. Her family was and always has been her life, and her legacy will live on for generations through those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Louise is survived by sister Eloise Page of Texas; daughter, Mary Palermo of Springfield; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Sharon Montgomery of Prineville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bayberry Commons where she lived for the past eight years and Signature Hospice for their amazing care in her final days.
A memorial service was held at Trinity Baptist Church.
