Blueberry festival, BMD events get underway this weekend

Festival-goers could find their thrill this weekend by supporting CASA, the nonprofit that is aligned with the 10th annual Adkins Farm Blueberry Festival Blues & Brews on Saturday, July 17.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers to advocate for children in foster care as a result of abuse or neglect. It gives them a powerful voice as they navigate the child welfare system.

Oregon law requires the court to appoint a CASA for every child whose case of neglect or abuse results in a judicial proceeding. Two children in the Adkins family were adopted from foster care, so this organization is especially near and dear to them.

While the event is free, donations will be collected at the gate for CASA of Lane County.

Blueberry picking begins at 8 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. There will be four bands — going from 11:30 till 5:45 — with a magic show breaking things up in the middle.

As always, food and drink vendors will be on hand, and there will be a face-painting station and other fun activities for the kids.

Adkins Blueberry Farm is located at 85995 Gossler Road in Eugene.
