Albert William Bailey: Nov. 3, 1941 – June 17, 2021

Our much-loved husband, father, grandpa, brother and uncle, Albert William Bailey, 79, of Cottage Grove, finished the good race and went home to the arms of his Savior on June 17, 2021. He was born Nov. 3, 1941 in Eugene, Ore. to William Albert Bailey, Jr. and Viola Mabel (McCornack) Bailey, the first of 10 children.

He lived his entire life in Lane County, with the exception of the 2 years he served in the U.S. Army (1963-1965). He was a Vietnam Veteran. He loved the time that he spent in his youth out on his grandparents’ farm west of Creswell. He graduated from Creswell High School in 1960 and immediately went to work at Cone Lumber Company. He worked there for 36 years until the sawmill portion shut down. After that he went to work as the cook at Grove Christian Service Camp until he retired. He considered this his dream job. Everyone loved his bread and cinnamon rolls.

In 1974 he married Linda Vaughn, the girl from across the street. He helped build the Delight Valley Church of Christ so they could be the first to be married in it. They celebrated 47 years of marriage in April of this year. Together they had 4 sons. He enjoyed showing them how to develop a loving relationship with their Lord, coaching his boys in basketball, and teaching them to appreciate the beauty and activities of the outdoors. Albert was a Master Recycler, former Youth Group Leader and had raced at Cottage Grove Speedway. Albert was a patriot, a kind gentle heart and the best grandpa ever.

He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Sylvia, and a brother James and a daughter-in-law Summer. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and four sons: Albert II (Raina), Aaron (Rebecca), Grant (Alana), all of Cottage Grove, Ryan (Shawna), of Creswell and 15 grandchildren. Siblings Marjorie Lee (David) of Salem, Ore., Shirley Stocker (Dennis) of Stanfield, Ore., David (Sioux) of Portland, Ore., Paul (Patti) of Springfield, Ore., Bill (Terie) of Roseburg, Ore., Dorothy Woods (Craig) of Kingman, Ariz., Raymond (Lenette) of Cottage Grove, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Delight Valley Church of Christ at 11 a.m.

Remembrances can be made in Albert’s name to Grove Christian Service Camp, 37028 Shoreview Drive, Dorena, OR 97434. Albert will be forever loved and greatly missed.
