Dorothy Watts: May 29, 1923 – May 27, 2021

Dorothy Watts was called to be with her Lord and savior on May 27, 2021 just two days short of her 98th birthday. She was born May 29, 1923 in Van Buren, Ark., to Bessie (Briley) Brasuell and John H Brasuell. She grew up on the farm there with her seven siblings.

She was the true Christian soldier and lived a life espousing her faith in God and being a great wife and partner to her husband Pastor Bill Watts. She was the mother to six children, Glenda Chapman (deceased), Denny Watts, Kylon Watts, Bryce Watts (deceased), Mary Ann Watts and Rebecca Boggs-Freshwater. She was proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 20 great-children and 2 great great-grandchildren.

In the early years, our family traveled extensively around the western states, moving often with a large tent where Dad preached and held revival meetings. Mom made a loving home anywhere we were and wherever God called them to be. Even though there were many times the family had limited means, through it all Mom and Dad were willing to share everything we had and sacrificed if needed to help others.

We moved to the Eugene/Springfield area in 1965. Mom and Dad continued the Lords’ work through the church and community service including the local mission. Daily, they visited shut-ins, nursing home residents and members of the congregation.

Mom volunteered many hours with the American Legion Auxiliary making quilts among other activities to support Veterans and their families. She enjoyed her time working with grade school children in the “Smart reading program.” After Dads’ passing in 1998, having never driven a car, she mastered the local bus system so she could continue reaching out to those in need, a practice she continued well into her 80s.

She spent her last 10 years at the Evergreen Senior Living residence where she continued to enjoy taking walks, playing Yahtzee, watching Jeopardy and visiting with her family. She had many friendships including the staff and caregivers there.

We are thankful to have had such an extraordinary, witty, caring and loving mother, we will miss her dearly. We take great comfort in the knowledge that one day we will all be reunited in Heaven.
