Glendon Henry Bricker was born in Trent, Ore. on Dec. 23, 1926. He died of natural causes on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Mennonite Home in Albany, Ore. at the age of 94.
He was the second child of William Henry Bricker and Bertha Ferguson Bricker. Glen joined older sister Ruth Bricker (Presley) in the family home. Later, younger sister Ardeth Bricker (McCartney) would be added to the Bricker family.
Lifelong friends and memories were made during Glen’s childhood in Trent and Thurston, Ore. In 1940, the family moved to Cottage Grove, where Glen would meet his future wife, Lucille Eastburn. Glen spent his senior year attending Eugene High School where he was also able to attend vocational school. Graduating in 1944, his mother co-signed for him to enter the U.S. Navy the day following his 18th birthday in December 1944. As a Radioman 3rd class in the Navy during World War II, his tour included serving proudly on Guam.
Following his Navy discharge, Glen and Lucille were married in Cottage Grove at the Sixth & Gibbs Avenue Church of Christ on March 15, 1947.
After daughter Judy was born, the Navy called Glen back to serve in the Korean War. Two more daughters would later be added, Carolyn and Arlene.
Together, Glen and Lucille enjoyed hosting friends and family in their home.
For almost 75 years, Glen was a member of the Church of Christ at Sixth & Gibbs in Cottage Grove. Being a man of great faith, Glen was devoted to his church family and served many years as a teacher, deacon, and elder. Many young people attended Sunday school and church camp because Glen persisted in making that happen knowing that a spiritual foundation would be important for their future.
Glen and Lucille celebrated 66 years of marriage prior to her death in 2012. Also preceding him in death was son-in-law Robert Gilman in 2017.
He is survived by three daughters and their families, Judy (Robert) Gilman of Albany, Carolyn (Carl) Palmer of Portland, and Arlene (Steve) Erb of Medford. “Grandpa Bricker” will be missed by his 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Four great-great grandchildren will greatly miss their “Great-Bricker.”
A private family graveside will be held at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove. The family is planning a Celebration of Life service at a later date. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove.
