Saturday night there were two very important happenings in Creswell. One was the annual Creswell Chamber of Commerce awards banquet at Emerald Valley Golf & Resort; we really desired to go to that activity as it is important to recognize persons and businesses in our community. The winners and others that were considered for awards are leaders and performers that may our city great. However, also happening was the Creswell High School Saucy Jazz concert.
We had to make a decision as we couldn’t attend both. We chose the Saucy Jazz performance at the high school and what a performance it was.
As usual and expected Sandi Green led her students in a performance of renditions of jazz numbers that were joyfully received by a large audience that, by my estimate, had over 300 viewers. Also dinner of lasagna and salad was served.
Many and varied desserts including delicious pies, cakes, cup cakes etc., were given by unique method. Envelopes were at each table and we were invited to make monetary pledges to enhance the school’s supply of musical equipment. The envelopes were collected and by using the amounts pledged by each table, we were allowed to pick our desserts; the one with largest donation pledged went first, followed by next highest and so on till all tables’ envelopes were called and we had our dessert of choice.
We went for the pecan pie and it was delicious. All the desserts were donated by various businesses and persons who wished to help the band. I do not know how much money was collected for the bands, but I know that one table pledged over $1,000. That shows the terrific support the citizens have for the kids and their education.
Barbara and I really enjoyed the music and dinner. We are so proud of the efforts and participation that goes into this activity.
