Year In Review: A ‘People’s Parade’ and area protests

Photos: Two women counter-protesting the “Black Lives Matter” rally include “White Power” messaging on a sweatshirt; the July 4 parade included an equestrian team; and Creswell’s City Hall was the scene of protesters.

When Covid guidelines that were issued by the governor’s office kept the usual Creswell Fourth of July activities grounded this year, residents organized their own “parade” through Creswell neighborhoods.

There were several protests in Springfield and in Creswell this year. People represented the belief that “Black lives matter,” and an opposing group counter-protested with a show of racist imagery and open-carry weapons.

Illegal activity was part of some protests; Holt Park in Creswell was vandalized multiple times when the City, following state regulations, installed safety netting.
