Mrs. Betty Jane Morrissey (Schultschik) passed away peacefully from natural causes at age 90 on December 19, 2020, with her son John at her side.
Betty was born in March 1930 in Bettendorf, Iowa, graduating from Davenport HS in 1947. She was introduced to Michael Morrissey through a local priest in Davenport and they were soon engaged. Betty followed Mike’s career in the lumber industry to Springfield, Ore., where they were married in October 1952. After several moves around the country for Mike’s work, they returned permanently to Oregon in 1964, raising four children in Fall Creek. In their retirement years they moved to the Staffordshire Community near Pleasant Hill. Throughout their lives they cherished simple activities like watching football, going to Saturday night mass followed by a nice dinner out, dog walking in the woods and traveling the beautiful Oregon backroads. Mike passed away in 1997.
Betty will be remembered for being an avid Oregon Ducks fan, for her enjoyment of card games, mahjong, mystery novels and gardening, and commitment to faith and service. Betty spent many dedicated years happily volunteering at the Oasis Institute and later at the Sacred Heart Hospital Guild gift shop. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Betty will be most missed for her quick wit and humor, the devotion she gave to each member of her family, and for baking the best chocolate chip cookies ever made … ever.
Betty is pre-deceased by her husband of 45 years, Mike, son David and daughter Terri Reyna, and survived by her son John and daughter Beth Kasney. Betty impressively kept up with every detail of her grandchildren’s ever-changing lives. She was deeply loved, admired and appreciated by them all: Erin Morrissey (mother to great-grandchild Addie), Patrick Rutledge, Alison Kasney, Drew Kasney, Lisa Reyna, and Michael Reyna. Betty made many treasured memories with step-grandchildren Gene and Ryan Overton, and other family members Mollie Morrissey, Ronit Cohen, Bill Kasney, Nick Reyna, and Julie Rutledge. Betty was at the center of every important family gathering and will be missed beyond words.
