The inaugural Village Blues Festival, featuring Anni Piper and five more Northwest-area bands, will be at the Village Green in Cottage Grove on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The nonprofit fundraiser – sponsored by the Rainy Day Blues Society – is for the Blues in the Schools (BITS) program.
BITS gives kids grades 1-12 an exciting, educational, and interactive glimpse of the world of blues music, teaching its importance not only in history, but in basic music appreciation.
Located at 725 Row River Rd., the venue offers several acres of shade trees and lawn and is physical-distancing friendly. Masks will be observed so that everyone can be outside and safely enjoy a day of the blues on their blankets or folding chairs.
“It’s been such hard times, this gives people a chance to get out and do some healing,” said Rainy Day Blues secretary Vicki Herleman. “I wanna let people feel normal for a day.”
“I’m especially excited about Annie Piper being here – she plays rockabilly and blues. I expect a great show from her.”
Joining Piper on the card are the Pacific NW Women’s Blues Review, Fret Logic, Jimmy Haggard Band, Lloyd Tolbert Band, and the Henry Cooper Trio.
