Spencer T. McGuire Jr.

June 7, 1943 – June 25, 2020

Spencer T. McGuire Jr. was born June 7, 1943 in Springfield, Oregon to parents Spencer T. and Clara B. McGuire. He was their first child. He had one brother and four sisters.

He graduated from Springfield High School and attended Lane Community College. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Shirley P. McGuire; they had three sons that they raised in the Creswell/Pleasant Hill area.

They owned and operated a poultry farm. Spencer also worked as a deputy sheriff, and then a heavy equipment mechanic for Lane County until his retirement in 1995.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Shirley, who passed in 2015 and by his brother, Wayne.

He is survived in life by his two sisters, Carol of Springfield and Shirley of Portland; three children, Don and wife Gena of Pleasant Hill, Dale of Hillsboro and Dean of Creswell; five grandchildren, Bryce, Brett, Christopher, Bradi and Ciara; five great-grandchildren, Ayden, Bailey, Camille, Aubrey and Isla; and two adopted grandchildren, Anna and Nichole.

He enjoyed working on all kinds of vehicles and could be counted on to assist in keeping the neighborhood’s farm equipment running. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic and to always make sure you were giving more effort than you were getting paid for.

He was active in the community as a volunteer for the Creswell Food Pantry as well as a supporter of Future Farmers of America and the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Both Spencer and Shirley were members of the Creswell Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the fellowship with the church.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
