Judith “Judy” Ann DeYoung Work passed peacefully at the age of 76, surrounded by the love of her family at her Cottage Grove home on the evening of June 17, 2020.
Judy was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon, on Dec. 19, 1943, to Lloyd and Josephine DeYoung. Judy graduated high school at Cottage Grove High in 1961.
She married Don Work on Nov. 30, 1962 in Cottage Grove and celebrated 52 years of marriage. Judy worked at Lincoln Middle School in Cottage Grove for several years in the school’s cafeteria.
Judy was incredibly artistic and found many ways to create and share her talents. She painted beautiful seascapes and woodland painting on canvas and antique saws, free conks, and burrows. Judy was always creatively decorating during the holidays and created her own Halloween costumes that she would wear to work.
Judy’s most creative talents showed through in her flower gardens and her stunningly beautiful backyard, She couldn’t wait for spring to get out and work the gardens. Judy loved old movies from the 1940s and 50s and probably had seen them all, twice.
Judy was a sweet, soft-spoken, caring woman who always gave more than she ever received. She was always filled with joy when surrounded by her grandchildren.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Don Work who passed on Feb. 18,2014.
Judy is survived by a daughter, Tammera Gordineer of Eugene; three grandchildren, Brandon Rhodes and Sherry Gordineer of Cottage Grove, and Tylor Gordineer of Eugene, Oregon; a great-granddaughter, Lilyana Gillham and a great-grandson Sunny Middaugh, both of Cottage Grove, Oregon; brother, Gene DeYoung; sisters Debbie Isaksen, of Cottage Grove, and Sandra Burrows of Seattle, Washingon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life and potluck will be held on Sunday, June 28 at 3 p.m. at Judy’s home. Arrangements are in the care of Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove.
