CSD approves coaching stipend, ‘Fund 275’ changes

CRESWELL — At the request of the school board during the February meeting, Superintendent Mike Johnson brought more information about the current financial picture of athletics and follow-up information about transportation to sporting events.
The board voted to approve the tennis coach stipend, and discussed bringing the athletic fund 275 back into the district budget.
Board Director Lacey Risdal explained the history of the fund to the new board members.
During the recession, the district had to cut sports out of the general funds and offer only minimal support while asking teams to fundraise. In the last few years, the district has increased its transfer money to support more stipends each year and is now in the position to bring it back into the general funds.
In 2018-19, the yearly revenue brought into the fund was $343,030 and the yearly expenses were $321,315.
The amount raised from fundraising at both the middle and high school was $23,228 and the district transfer for both high school and middle school athletics was $220,100.
The salaries for high school and middle school coaches combined were $148,539.
