Library takes quick action

CRESWELL — All programs at Creswell Library, as well as the annual Friends of the Creswell Library Spring Book Sale scheduled for last weekend, have been canceled and the library is closed at least through March 31 as area leaders respond to the global pandemic, COVID-19.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we feel that this is what is best for our community,” said youth librarian Nick Caum.
State officials are ordering new guidelines almost daily.
“I’ve been following the news very carefully because I feel responsible for the well-being of a lot of vulnerable people,” said library director Su Liudahl, noting that most library volunteers “fit the high-risk criteria, and they mean too much to us to take any chances with their health.”
Due dates and fines will be suspended until the library and schools reopen – and with the situation fluid and rapidly evolving, no one is certain when that might be.
As of now, employees are primarily working remotely. Plans are to keep the Wi-Fi on so people can access the internet from the parking lot, using their own devices. Electronic books continue to be available from the library website, creswell-library.org, and the Libby app.
