Demolition of Creswell’s Community Center

This proposal of SLF&R is so totally self-serving that it’s hard for us to articulate all the reasons this idea shouldn’t fly with our City Council.
During this era of environmental concern, it’s suggested we consider a sound building as disposable as plastic bags. Demolishing this building would not only be wasteful, it would release many airborne pollutants.
We’re sure that an inspection would uncover asbestos and/or lead and require an expensive hazmat demolition crew.
The mature landscaping would fall victim to heavy equipment. Then the still-functional firehall would also be discarded like so much garbage and be subject to the same environmental concerns. Then more black top or concrete paving for a city parking lot and more runoff for our drainage system.
If these buildings are in disrepair, a responsible repair and upgrade project is reasonable. We need servicable and sustainable buildings, not a showplace.
Let’s not get caught up in costly projects by an entity that will be looking for grants (tax dollars) and possibly a bond issue.
As we all know, many others who live in these two taxing districts feel the same way we do, but just haven’t taken the time to let our elected officials know their angst. Please do not further burden us all with more debt or spending.
