Seniors make statement

COOS BAY – Making it down to Coos Bay wasn’t just a team goal for the Bulldogs this season, it was the ultimate career goal for most of the seniors on this team.
Kai Apo and Austin Gabriel both recounted attending games when they were younger and knew that was where they needed to end up.
”Not only did we lose our first playoff game a couple of times but we knew when we were little and watched a team go to Coos Bay, that we had to end up there too,” Apo said.
With eight seniors going into their final games together, it was the end for teammates who had been playing side-by-side since their YMCA days.
”It’s hard to think that I won’t be playing with these guys again. The season just ended but we would normally be preparing for summer ball and next year, next season. The fact that it’s over is something that I haven’t digested yet,” Gabriel said.
Four years into his career as Creswell’s head coach, Jesse Thomas will be graduating his first round of players who have been coached only by him at the varsity level.
”Not only are these guys going to be missed because they’re such great basketball players but they’re so much fun to be around,” he said. ”The last couple of years they’ve dealt with a lot of adversity and a lot of failure. Very few teams end their seasons with a victory and this group deserves it.”
