THE WEEK AHEAD

BOYS BASKETBALL
Saturday, Feb. 29
Sutherlin at Creswell, 7 p.m.
Why2Watch: After losing to Sutherlin earlier this year in its first loss of the year by only three points, Creswell is ready for a rematch. No better time than the playoffs, right? Creswell will host the first round of the playoffs at home against former Sky-Em league opponent. After leading most of the game earlier this season Creswell didn’t close the fourth quarter in a fashion that gave them the lead in the final moments.
Coach speaks: ”We didn’t close last time. We have a lead for almost the entire game and let it slip out from under us. We’re going to focus on our defense and rebounding, fundamentals. Prep for their matchup Zone on the offensive end. We’re going to keep things as normal as possible this week. If we play our game and control the tempo we’ll have no problems,” said head coach Jesse Thomas.

WRESTLING
Why2Watch: Being Creswell’s first ever qualifier in the OSAA girls wrestling state championships, Brielle Brick is making an historic appearance and also taking on last year’s returning state champion, Tyler Richardson from Vale, in the first round. … Brick has been preparing one-on-one with coaches for the past two weeks, after qualifying fourth in her weight class for the opportunity to participate in OSAA’s second sanctioned state championships for girls in wrestling.
Coach speaks: ”We’ve been working on her footwork, setting up and taking shots. There’s that saying in order to be the champion you must beat the champion and I really believe she can,” said head coach Mario Perez.
