COTTAGE GROVE – CHS participated in the Cottage Grove Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. The Creswell boys took 26th out of the 30 teams, with Jurny Halvorson placing sixth in the 126-pound class. The girls team placed 16th out of the 30 schools, with Brielle Brick taking first place in the 140-pound weight class and teammate Guinevere Devore in fifth for the same weight class.
”Tournaments can always be a little chaotic, especially one that size,” said head coach Mario Perez. ”Sometimes there were two or three of my kids competing at the same time and I wanted to be at all of them. That’s when you really see how much they support each other as teammates. If one of us was getting ready to compete, the others were right there too.”

SPRINGFIELD – CHS might have been two cheerleaders short of its original roster but the six who were present at the Springfield Invitational performed and completed their entire routine, checking off one of the competitions needed for state qualification. Creswell introduced a new pyramid section to its routine, added the Thursday before they took the mat at Springfield on Saturday, Feb. 1.
”We had a few timing issues and a few stunts we need to improve on, but otherwise we nailed our pyramid section and that was a huge goal for us,” head coach Christine Bandey said.
