Exploregon: The Backstories – Hell’s Canyon Scenic Byway in winter? ‘Hell’ yes!

There are places in the Pacific Northwest that are hammered with tourists in the late spring, summer and early fall. But these remote outposts are often somewhat deserted when winter settles in.
My wife Kathy and I have always wanted to visit the Hell’s Canyon Scenic Byway in the dead of winter. And starting now … we will get to go.
Our program is growing. Toyota Northwest is our title sponsor and they like what we did last year so much they asked us to rebrand and expand our shows from Oregon to the entire Pacific Northwest. It may take us a year or so to build relationships with these other states, but we decided to broaden our scope now to prepare for the future.
In our upcoming live and as-if-live series we will visit three Eastern Oregon areas. We start in La Grande with historic hot springs, restaurants and even a steel foundry. We head to Wallowa County for a dogsled race; explore winter sports on a little Joseph ski hill and a new pizza place in town; then we move to Halfway to snowmobile to a ghost town and to Baker City to taste a foodie experience; then we end our trip in Sumpter, snowmobiling, and at Anthony Lakes Ski Resort.
We never overplan our adventures. When you do, you often miss the best parts. Everything we do is online, either live on our ExplOre PNW Backstories Facebook Page or on Instagram at PNW_Backstories.
Last year our adventures (seven different regions) reached 10 million people. There are a lot of folks out there who don’t care much for a resort, but when they vacation they want to experience a community. That’s what we like, too, and that is what PNW Backstories focuses on.
Please come follow our pages and our adventure. We’ll do the heavy lifting; you just sit in your warm living room next to the fireplace and pretend that you are with us.
