Week in Review:
BOYS BASKETBALL
Results:
CHS 63, Santiam Christian 40
CHS 66, La Pine 49
The skinny: The Bulldogs are on a six-game winning streak and have won by an average of 22.6 points per game. No. 8 Creswell nearly doubled No. 9 Santiam Christian’s points through the first three quarters. Kai Apo (19 ppg, 8.6 rpg), scored 30 points and was the game’s only player reaching double digits. … La Pine was a different story. The Hawks trailed by only one point at halftime; Creswell then held La Pine to only five points in the third quarter. Dallton Dewey had a game-high 19 points, Tyler Frieze was right behind him with 18 and Apo had 14.
Coach speaks: ”They have to remember to execute at a high level on each possession on offense and defense,” Jesse Thomas said.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Results:
CHS 35, Santiam Christian 40
CHS 49, La Pine 38
The skinny: Creswell may have headed into the Santiam Christian game on a five-game losing streak but the Bulldogs took control of the first quarter, outscoring SC 13-2. Creswell had 31 turnovers that Santiam Christian turned into 11 points and allowed the Eagles to overcome the deficit. Brea Dapron had almost half of the Bulldogs’ points with 16 and even more (20) rebounds. Despite missing the second half in the first two league games, Dapron is averaging 13.8 ppg and 12.6 rpg in league play and has recorded over 10 rebounds in 12 separate games. … Creswell broke its losing streak against La Pine, beating the Hawks 49-38. Dapron led the game with 19 points and 19 rebounds while the Dawgs improved with 23 turnovers, their lowest of the regular season so far.
Coach speaks: ”If we tighten a few things up and our turnovers aren’t in the 30s range, then our final scores will start being very different,” Tyler Hollingsworth said.

The Week Ahead:
BOYS BASKETBALL
Monday, Feb. 3
CHS vs. Harrisburg, 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 5
CHS at Santiam Chr., 7:30 p.m.
WHY2WATCH: CHS beat Harrisburg by 31 points on the road earlier this season, but this game might be different. Harrisburg has won at Santiam Christian this year, and one of its three wins last year was on the road, winning by 11 at Creswell. … With only two weeks between meetings with Santiam Christian, the Bulldogs will want better results than their last hour-long trip north to SC, where they lost 58-49.
Coach speaks: ”A week without losses is always a good week,” said coach Jesse Thomas.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Friday, Jan. 31
CHS at Bandon, 5:30 p.m.
Monday, Feb. 3
CHS vs. Harrisburg, 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 5
CHS at Santiam Chr., 6 p.m.
WHY2WATCH: Creswell plays four games in 10 days, and two of the opponents are Top 10. Coach Tyler Hollingsworth said they’ll be using the momentum from the narrow loss to Santiam Christian and much-needed win against La Pine to keep energy high through the busy week.
Coach speaks: ”It was good for them to see the results when they keep their energy up and fight for it. The win was good for morale because now they’ve actually seen that they can win and maybe they’ll believe it in the future too.”

WRESTLING
Thursday, Jan. 30
CHS at Harrisburg, 5 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 31 – Saturday, Feb. 1
CHS at Cottage Grove, time TBD.
WHY2WATCH: The two-day Cottage Grove Invitational is one of the largest tournaments in the area and features 30 local teams. Cottage Grove will also feature a girls tournament, giving the girls from Creswell a chance to see more potential postseason opponents as they prepare for District Championships next month.
Coach speaks: ”This week we are going to go back to the basics. For a lot of sports, kids have been involved since they were little. A lot of basketball players start to dribble when they’re barely walking; a lot of wrestlers get into the sport later in life, so the fundamental motions aren’t as second-nature. Districts are right around the corner so I’m going to help make sure they’re walking; then they can take off running again,” said head coach Mario Perez.
