Adopt a Farmer and Northwest Transplants collaborated with Creslane Elementary to provide free broccoli and pepper starts to students.

FARMS, SCHOOLS PARTNER TO STUDENTS

In a special collaboration with Adopt a Farmer and Northwest Transplants, Creslane Elementary was able to give students free broccoli and pepper starts to pick up and grow at home. Small bags of soil were also available for families to pick up while supplies last. 

Adopt a Farmer donated 3,000 broccoli starts and 3,500 pepper starts. The starts were available on Wednesday, May 13 and Friday, May 15. 

2020-21 CRESLANE REGISTRATION

In lieu of the kindergarten welcome and registration event that was canceled in March, Creslane has opened registration online to get kindergarten kids enrolled in the fall. The link is on the District’s website under announcements. The link also includes a virtual tour of Creslane’s kindergarten program, and the registration form is available in both English and Spanish. Children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten. 

DOLLAR GENERAL LITERACY AWARDS $5k GRANT

Downtown Languages in Springfield is being recognized as one of the five Oregon nonprofit or literacy organizations to receive funding from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The organization received $5,000 of the $30,000 going to the state. 

Grant recipients plan to use awarded funds to promote literacy and learning across a variety of programs including promoting childhood summer reading, helping adults learn to read and prepare for the high school equivalency exam, and helping individuals to learn English.

The grants are expected to positively impact the lives of more than 30,000 Oregon residents. 

COTTAGE GROVE PLANNING ‘GRAD CRUISE’

Cottage Grove High School will host a graduate cruise for diploma distribution and photo opportunity, preceded by a streamed commencement ceremony on June 6. Speeches and names will be streamed at 11 a.m. and the cruise will occur at 2 p.m.
